今日のソムタム

「ねえ、ソムタム食べる？」
「うーん」
「食べないでしょ。ガピを入れるわよ」
「・・・・」
ガピを入れたソムタムを作っていた。
海老だかオキアミだか忘れたが、ガピには甲殻類特有な臭いが
ある。海老や蟹が好きな人にはたまらないほどいい香りなのだが、
俺の好みに合わない。タイでは生の蟹をソムタムに入れている。
それがいいと言うのだ。
「サミイが食べないのなら、辛くするわよ」
「ああ、いいよ」
せっかく作ったのだから、一口だけつまんで見た。いい味だ。
いろいろな味が程よくまとまっている。
味はいいのだが、香りが好みにあわないのだ。
食べ物を好むかどうかは味よりも香りで決まることが多い。
